I object to changing Sarasota County’s 2050 Plan. The proposed changes profit a few rent-seeking developers who make major political contributions. Subverting the plan as proposed will harm County citizens’ living standards and quality by sprawling homes into agricultural lands, meanwhile foisting infrastructure costs onto middle and low-income people lacking influence. The amendments will eventually cut employment and economic growth needed for improving residents’ standard of living.

Sarasota County Commissioners absolutely refuse to perform due diligence by analyzing the economic costs, benefits and major issues of major economic strategy and fiscal neutrality. Absent this prerequisite, State agencies cannot conscientiously review the County’s proposals. The Board even fires staff daring to suggest prudent business practices: witness its recent Administrator. The corruption of County processes is demonstrated by the way the changes are being rammed through, with little pretense given to public interests. Meanwhile, implicit tax increases are continuing, such as for 2014 property taxes. Please help stop this waste by sending the proposed changes back for revision.

Dear Sarasota County Commissioners,

Tomorrow you have a unique opportunity to choose between right and wrong. The 2050 Plan was crafted after months of meetings and consultation with the best experts in this region. It was a masterpiece of planning legislation and provided for smart growth while protecting the quality of life for existing residents/taxpayers/voters. It did not stop growth, the Great Recession stopped growth.

Please vote tomorrow to retain the existing protections of the original 2050 Plan. Residents have appeared at public forums in droves asking you not to destroy a decade of planning. Let us know you heard our point of view and allow us to have the future many of us dreamed of before we retired. We don't want a West Coast Miami.

Thank you for your consideration.

Dear Mr. Eubanks, Ms. Brookens, and Sarasota County Commissioners,
I am in opposition to the amendments to change the Sarasota 2050 plan! This letter sent previously by Cathy Attunes from 2050 action network says it all, I would have noted all the same points. Please reconsider the amendment plans to support fiscal neutrality and environment conservation.
Thank you for your attention.
Sincerely,
Tina Rowbottom,
Englewood Sarasota County

TO: VALERIE BROOKENS, RAY EUBANKS AND THE SARASOTA COUNTY COMMISSION.RE: AMENDMENTS TO THE SARASOTA 2050 PLAN!
I DO NOT SUPPORT THE AMENDMENTS BEING PROPOSED TO CHANGE SARASOTA’S 2050 PLAN!! THEREFORE, I URGE YOU TO REJECT THESE CHANGES. IT IS OBVIOUS THIS IS ALL ABOUT THE MONEY THAT WILL BE TO THE BENEFIT OF ONE GROUP OF INDIVIDUALS. THERE MUST BE AN EFFORT MADE TO RETAIN AS MUCH OF THE NATURAL ENVIRONMENT OF WHICH SARASOTA HAS BEEN ENDOWED. MORE STUDIES AND INPUT FROM THE COMMUNITY MUST BE CONSIDERED.
THINK ABOUT WHY SO MANY HAVE DECIDED TO COME TO THE SUN COAST RATHER THAN THE EAST COAST THE PAST COUPLE OF DECADES, BESIDES THE WONDERFUL VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS WE OFFER. IF THIS AMENDMENT PASSES IT WILL CREATE WHAT MANY HAVE WORKED OVER THE YEARS TO PREVENT : MORE URBAN SPRAWL THAT TRANSFERS TO WALL TO WALL CONCRETE, OUR WILDLIFE WILL BE LOST AND NEED I MENTION THE INCREASE IN TRAFFIC (AS IF WE NEED MORE THAN WHAT IS ALREADY HERE!). WILL THERE BE ENOUGH WATER TO MEET THE DEMAND? AND OH YES, THE PLANS OF FUTURE DEVELOPMENT MUST BE FISCALLY NEUTRAL…..NOT ON THE BACKS OF TAXPAYERS!

THESE ARE FEW OF THE EXAMPLES OF WHY I PLEAD WITH YOU TO VOTE “NO” ON THE AMENDMENTS TO THE SARASOTA 50 PLAN. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERIOUS CONSIDERATION.
VERY TRULY YOURS,

JOY SICA NAYLOR
